Women’s lacrosse club fosters friendship

The University of Wyoming is home to many varsity and club sports, one of the popular sports is the women’s club lacrosse team.

Veteran member of the team Susannah Roberts, junior microbiology major, has played for the club team for two years and in high school for two years before that.

Club lacrosse offers many opportunities to its members. One of these being the ability to meet and interact with others who share a passion for the game.

“Getting to meet new people and all the friendships you create along the way,” Roberts said when asked what her favorite part of being a member of the club lacrosse team here at the University of Wyoming is.

As a member of the club lacrosse team one not only gets to meet teammates and friends on campus but also meet other lacrosse players from throughout Colorado and Utah as they travel to different competitions.

Lacrosse requires dedication and hard work.

“It is a very physically demanding game,” Roberts said. “It helps you get in shape and stay and shape.”

The members of the women’s lacrosse team are able to keep up with the physical demands of the sport through practicing three times a week during the spring semester and taking advantage of the university’s indoor practice facility when the weather is too harsh to practice outside.

All this hard work pays off for the women, as they were able to compete at a high level in the division two Rocky Mountain West Lacrosse League.

There are many fans of the lacrosse team here at the University of Wyoming. One of these fans is undeclared freshman Zachary Multer. Multer who has four years experience playing lacrosse is very impressed with the women’s and men’s club lacrosse teams here at UW.

“From what I have seen they are great programs, and I definitely plan on attending more games in the future,” Multer said.

If joining the women’s club lacrosse team sounds interesting to you, information and contacts can be found at the women’s club lacrosse site at uwyo.edu that states: “No previous experience playing lacrosse is needed in order to play!”

The women’s club lacrosse team and its players put in a lot of work, and are a close-knit group, so be sure to go out and support them.
