Volleyball starts season off strong

The University of Wyoming volleyball team started off their season by hosting the Rumble in the Rockies and took on Northern Florida and Oral Roberts on Friday, August 24. The Cowgirls would end up sweeping both matches winning their first six games of the season.

Wyoming played Northern Florida at noon on Friday and won the three games 25-12, 25-12, and 25-17. The Cowgirls were lead offensively by Tara Traphagan and Emily Lewis who each had 8 kills. Cori Aafedt would add 18 assists and Marissa Harmon would add 14 assists to help with the offensive efforts. Defensively Wyoming was led by Madi Fields with 12 digs while Trahphagan and Jackie McBride each had 5 blocks.

In their evening match against Oral Roberts the Cowgirls would dominate the first game winning by a score of 25-7. Wyoming would go on to win the next two games by scores of 25-15 and 25-18. Wyoming would be lead by Traphagan who had 9 kills while Mcbride and Halie McArdle would each have 8 kills. Aafedt had 18 assists and Harmon would have 16 assists in the match.

Following the game Head Coach Chad Callihan said “I thought we were really efficient offensively. We had over 500 kill percentage as a team which is really high. I was really pleased and thought they made smart choices.”

Wyoming will take on Colorado to finish up the Rumble in the Rockies.
