Student art auction hosted tonight

The Student Art League (SAL) will be holding its annual auction of artwork created by students and faculty tonight in the Visual Arts lobby from 5 to 7 p.m.

“Student and faculty made artwork will be sold at the auction, most of the submissions come from members of SAL,” said Jordyn Cunningham-Hill, a new member of SAL. “There is a variety of mediums such as paint, clay, colored pencil and collage, to name a few.”

Bids will start at $4 and go up by increments of $4. There will be a sheet underneath the art piece for people to write their name and/or email if they are interested in that piece. Each piece is on a four-inch by four-inch wood panel.

Food will be served and provided at the auction. Andale Rapido will be catering the event, provided by SAL, with snacks that fit the theme of the night. Proceeds of the auction will go to SAL to pay for trips to museums, other art exhibits and related activities to gain art insight.

“Student Art League is an RSO made up of art students, or students/community members, that are interested in art; it is open to anyone to join,” Cunningham-Hill said.

Cunningham-Hill partnered with the group for one of her public relations courses. Her course allows her to write press releases and features for an organization or small business in Laramie, Cunningham-Hill chose to partner with SAL.

The League provides an opportunity for students and people of all fields to interact with fellow artists to explore, create and appreciate the visual arts. SAL is interested in supporting art-producing and learning activities and fostering a student community on campus for students of all studies.

As a recognized group of the ASUW, SAL plans events such as the Paper fashion show, the Salon de Refuses, Croquis and provide resources and information about workshops, exhibitions and silent auctions in the Laramie community.

Student Art League meets every Friday at 2 to 3 p.m. in the Visual Arts Facility Lobby. Membership fees are $5.
