Opinion: The Burrito Wars, potholes vs. Laramie

As of late I have noticed an increasingly annoying problem around Laramie, and I have thought long and hard over the past couple weeks about this problem while on my frequent trips to the local Taco Bell.

This problem I have been pondering is frickin’ potholes. For those that live close to the University and don’t drive every day it might not be super apparent, but for the rest of the population that commutes it is and something needs to be done about it.

While spring steadily grows in strength and the snow and cold weather seems to be going away, these potholes have been popping up all over town and are posing a threat on just about every street you can name that has not been paved in the past year or two.

You could be driving down Grand Avenue and BAM! You’re being assaulted by a pothole. You could be driving down 15th Street and WHAMMY! It is a minefield of potholes that causes you to swerve and pray to whoever or whatever you believe in that you don’t run into some poor, unsuspecting jogger or cyclist.

This is an extremely serious issue that needs to be addressed by the city as soon as possible. I don’t want to have to be worrying that I’m going to get swallowed up by some massive crater every time I turn onto a new road. I mean honestly, the size of some of the potholes I’ve seen while out driving in Laramie is just plain scary. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could fit a couple hundred dollars’ worth of Taco Bell burritos in some of these things.

That’s not a world I want to live in and if potholes get to the point where you could put that many burritos in it, you have got a major issue on your hands. I am looking at you, City of Laramie. Fix some of those potholes already!

If I had to give one of my delicious burritos up every time I have hit a pothole within the last week, I would probably be starving to death by now. If I could fix one those potholes by sacrificing one of my mouthwatering, spicy burritos, I would have by now.

I think the city, an entity that could afford MANY more burritos than I can, should feel the same way. However, this does not seem to be the case as I have watched some potholes grow tremendously over the last month and other popping up where you would least expect. I have even seen a couple grow so large they have swallowed whole families in their minivans.

It is a dangerous world out there and nature is bringing the war to us with these potholes. I just hope the city does something about before we lose anymore poor souls who have dared to venture out on the road or any more burritos, which I must admit don’t work as well to fill potholes as I thought they might. I may or may not have tried, but you will never know for sure.
