Wyoming Track and Field end season in Colorado

The Wyoming track and field team ended the regular season at the Jack Christiansen Invitational hosted by Colorado State in Fort Collins with 10 personal best marks and seven event wins. 

“I thought the team did a great job of building on the momentum we created in California last week,” said Bryan Berryhill the head coach of Track and Field to Wyoming Athletics. “We were very focused today and ended the regular season of our schedule with lots of positive results. Now, all our focus will shift towards the championship part of the season, starting with the Mountain West Championships in two weeks.”

Leading the Cowgirls was the 4x100m relay team of Jerayah Davis, Ja’la Henderson, Shayla Howell and Jordan Edmonds who recorded a season-best time of 44.66. Which is 0.03 seconds off the school record. The 4x400m relay team of Jasmyne Cooper, Kaylee Kearse, Jacey Reinhert, and Julia Kay O’Neill won with a time of  3:54.73. Jasmyne Cooper picked up another event win on the track, in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.47. 

Ja’la Henderson improved her all-time long jump record with a mark of 20 feet, 5.25 inches to finish first. Shayla Howell took third with a leap of 19-2.75. Aumni Ashby got on the podium in the triple jump as a second-place finisher after jumping 38-7.5. 

Thrower Cosette Stellern took sixth in the discus with a throw of 150-8. Mary Carbee had a personal-best throw of 162-1 in the hammer throw to help her finish in fifth, and Maddy Dedic threw a personal best of 40-9 to finish sixth. 

On the men’s side, Eric McArthur won the hammer throw with a throw of 194-11, while Colton Paller placed third in the discus and shot put with marks of 171-2 and 48-9. Hap Frketich took second in the javelin throw with a throw of 186-9. 

In men’s track, Bryce Ailshie finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.84, and Caige McComb PR’d in the 110m hurdles, he finished seventh with a time of 15.21. Roman Smith competed in the 100m and 200m dashes to place 12th and ninth with times of 11.13 for the 100m and 22.24 for the 200m. 

The Cowboys and Cowgirls track and field team will compete in the Mountain West Championships, held Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11, in Fresno, California.
