Vandals cause damage in UW Union

University police are investigating vandalism to the Wyoming Union over the weekend.

The vandalism was discovered around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 15, Center for Student Involvement and Leadership Director Jeremy Davis said.

There were three rooms vandalized: a conference room, the Senate Chambers and the Family Room. The conference room on the third floor sustained the most damage. A television in the room was destroyed by either being hit or having something thrown at the screen, he said.

Sodas were thrown against walls, which broke open and covered the walls, floors and ceilings and also causing damage to the targeted walls.

The building was open and the spaces had been unlocked to facilitate events happening in those rooms, Davis said.

A building supervisor discovered the damages when they were performing their security checks before closing the building, he said.

Chad Baldwin, UW spokesperson, said, the incident is still under investigation, but there were cameras that caught where the vandalism was carried out.

He said the vandals are not UW students and that they are juveniles, possibly of high school age.

As of now the report is still under investigation and results of the case are still inconclusive.
