Danielle Server – Staff Writer

With three tournaments behind them, the women’s tennis team members prepare for their final two events for the fall.

The team will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All American on Oct. 5. They will round out the fall with the ITA regionals Oct. 23-27 in Denver, Colorado.

“I think it’s coming along,” Coach Dean Clower. “The upperclassmen are leading the way for the freshmen.”

The three freshmen tennis players have come into collegiate play hitting the ground running. Freshman Oleksandra Balaba, won her singles section at the Wyoming invite most recently. She is 5-4 in singles and 6-3 in doubles thus far, going 1-0 in doubles in her most match play with her partner sophomore Maria Oreshkina.

Freshman Clara Mansart has found success in doubles play, going 9-1 in doubles and 2-0 in the past tournament with her duo partner sophomore Ida Krause. Freshman Zarah Mughal has gone 8-2 in singles.

The Wyoming Cowgirls competed at the Iberostar Collegiate Cup last week in Cancun, Mexico. They kept improving as a team at the cup, going 5-0 against Cleveland State and 3-2 against Southeastern Louisiana to complete the tournament.

“It was a great tournament for us and a good time to train,” Clower said regarding the Mexico tournament in September.

“We will keep developing and playing our style of tennis.”
