Current Cowboys in the NFL

How is the NFL season going for Josh Allen and company?

LARAMIE, Wy. — The Cowboys have produced nine current NFL players, playing all across the league in various roles.

Obviously, Josh Allen is the most notable, coming off an MVP season two years ago, but there are many other UW alumni making a difference on Sundays.

Within the first four weeks of the season, various Cowboys are proving to be difference-makers on both sides of the ball, so here’s a quick recap of the start of the season for all of them.

Josh Allen

Allen is objectively the best NFL product this university has ever had, and rightfully so had his jersey retired at War Memorial Stadium in 2025.

With the Bills’ score at 3–1, Allen has gotten off to a hot start yet again, tied with the Ravens’ Derrick Henry for most rushing touchdowns in the league this season.

He has also added another six through the air for a total of 13 scores through four games. These performances have certified him as the early season MVP favorite.

Andrew Wingard

Another player from those dominant, late 2010s Cowboys teams, Andrew Wingard has been a solid safety in the league for the better part of a decade.

Now in his first of eight seasons with the Cardinals after seven seasons with Jacksonville, Wingard has totaled 23 tackles on the year with Arizona.

In week one he played a huge role in the Cardinals’ victory over the Chargers, forcing a fumble and intercepting a ball in the 26–14 victory.

Carl Granderson

Another player in that 2019 class, and probably the most underrated, Carl Granderson has been a rock-solid defensive end for the New Orleans Saints his whole professional career.

His best season came in 2023, totaling 8.5 sacks and 78 tackles.

This year, Granderson has totaled 11 tackles and a sack through the first three games of the season, but missed New Orleans’ week four matchup against the Falcons with an ankle injury.

Frank Crum

After going undrafted in 2024, Frank Crum, a Laramie native, has made a name for himself as a solid offensive tackle for the Broncos.

Currently sitting behind veteran talent at tackle, Crum has still made 17 appearances for Denver over his first few seasons.

Last year in 2025, Crum famously became the first Broncos offensive lineman to score a touchdown in a playoff game, helping Denver beat Buffalo and advance to the AFC Championship game.

Marcus Epps

For four years, 2015–18, Marcus Epps and Andrew Wingard made a deadly combo at safety for the Cowboys, and both of their careers have translated nicely to the league.

Epps has spent six of his eight years in the league thus far playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

A starter for six years of his career, Epps has had 329 tackles and 18 passes defended.

For 2026, he has totaled 16 tackles for the first three games, but missed the Eagles’ week four matchup with the Rams due to an injury.

Other Cowboys

There are four other Wyoming products in the league, mostly young players that have been signed to practice squads.

These players include Caden Barnett, John Michael Gyllenborg, Evan Svoboda, and Treyton Welch.

Barnett is a rookie offensive lineman for the Bears, Gyllenborg is a rookie tight end for the Chiefs, Svoboda is a rookie tight end for the Chargers, and Welch is a third-year tight end for the Saints.
