Laramie-bound students can still have a break

With no classes on the week of Thanksgiving and many people out of town, what is there left to do in Laramie?

Starting Wed., the Washakie Dining Center will have alternate holiday hours until Fri. Brunch will be served from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Wyoming Union and food courts will be closed Wed. through Fri.

The University Counseling Center is open Wed. but will be closed Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The after hours crisis line will be available at all times during the break at (307)766-8989. The crisis line provides access to professional counselors of the University Counseling center.

The Wellness Center will be closed Thurs. and Fri., so there will be not Drop-In Meditation or Free Fruit Friday.

Half Acre gym will have regular hours Mon. and Tues. and be open Wed. from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., however will be closed for the holidays, said Brianne, a Wellness Center assistant at Half Acre Recreation and Wellness. Regular hours will resume Sat.

At the beginning of the week, a winter storm warning was issued until today at 6 p.m. Southeast Wyoming and a portion of Nebraska were predicted to get anywhere from six to 15 inches of snow. Roads are not expected to be clear.

Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Pete’s Game room in the lower level of the Union will be Game Night hosted by Students Supporting Veterans. Free pizza and games will be provided.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles at 126 E Lyons Street will be hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. The dinner is free and open to everyone. No membership is required to attend.

The Eppson Center for Seniors will also be hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner available to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Coal Creek Tap is hosting a free beer tasting on Thanksgiving day from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Along with free samples, pints will be discounted on select brews.

Friday marks the annual Black Friday in stores with many sales.

There will be a women’s basketball game on Sat. New Mexico Highland Cowgirls will face of the Wyoming Cowgirls in the Arena-Auditorium at 2 p.m.

Small Business Saturday is also happening Sat. in the downtown area.

Acoustic Mic has an open mic night on Sat. starting at 7 p.m. It is free to attend and is located on 1108 E Grand Avenue. Other bands such as Country Skillet and Meat & Potatoes will perform at the event.

From Fri. through Sun. there will be the annual Log Cabin Christmas Craft Sale. Attendance is free and free cookies and hot beverages are also provided. There will also be a free ticket raffle. Tickets are given just for attendance and more tickets are given for donating canned goods and purchases from vendors. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 2755 Riverside Drive.
