Are you a pro of prose?

Tanner Conley

As the holiday season rolls around, the financial burden of gifts for the whole family can really begin to mount. Great gifts cost great amounts of money, and that might not be easy to come by these days. Now students can turn a knack for writing into a solid paycheck every two weeks.

The Student Media program at the University of Wyoming is looking to hire new editors for their Frontiers magazine and their Owen Wister Review (OWR).

But what is Frontiers and OWR?

Frontiers is a student-run outdoor magazine, the only one of its kind in Wyoming. It features student-written articles supplemented with photography supplied by student-photographers. As the editor of this project, students would have the final say on what makes the cut, and the overall aesthetic of every issue.

With a focus on the many beautiful aspects of Wyoming, this magazine caters to all walks of life within Wyoming and has developed a fan base to match. This entails that students’ hard work will be read and enjoyed by hundreds of people across the state. So, whether students are outdoor enthusiasts, or the casual observer, this position could provide an opportunity to expand students’ horizons for the better.

If a students’ tastes are more classical, and their interests fall under the finer things of life, then OWRis the job. Unlike Frontiers, the OWR is a bound collection of short stories, poems and photographs that truly capture the decadence and beauty that talented minds can offer. Submissions are sent in from across the world, where they are then sorted and edited. This sorting and editing will be the responsibility of the editor themselves. The best photos, stories and poems are printed in the latest collection of the OWR.

These collections are only published once a year, so Student Media is looking for an editor that can work throughout that time period. Much like Frontiers, the OWR has amassed a state-wide following. This means that the editor’s work will be appreciated by people from all over the state.

These positions offer unique challenges and responsibilities that can teach valuable skills throughout life and a steady source of income. Not to mention the fact that experience in these positions is an impressive resume builder.

Student Media is actively seeking editors to fill either of these positions. Interested students can visit uwo.edu/hr for the official job description and application, and questions can be directed to (307)766-6190. We hope to hear from students soon!
