The new and improved Wyo-Gold Student Alumni Association, a Recognized Student Organization (RSO), is dedicated to educating University of Wyoming students about their future roles as alumni and instilling long lasting UW pride.

The RSO offers valuable, resume building opportunities for those looking to make the most out of their time as students.

“Wyo-Gold is one of the oldest RSOs and one of the most premiere ones on campus other than Greek Life,” said Hannah Miller, president of Wyo-Gold. “Basically, Wyo-Gold went through some leadership problems. We kind of lost momentum, so we decided to just change the whole thing and revamp it.”

Wyo-Gold is now an application based RSO, requiring that anyone who is interested in becoming a member now has to fill out an application. This change is in hopes to inspire more active membership and motivation to participate in the RSO’s leadership and community based activities.

“We look for a lot of volunteer work or previous experience in planning events. People who go the extra mile to be apart of leadership, such as planning events or leading a group of people,” said Miller. “Last year, anybody could apply which [was] great, but a lot people applied just to be apart of [the club], not for the opportunities.”

Wyo-Gold has seen great improvement since implementing the application and recommendation process with their increased number of members.

One of the goals in the RSO is to be more active in the community by showing support through their events and activities. In the spring, WyoGold is planning on doing more philanthropic work by holding events for the community. These events include fundraisers for families who have medical problems and taking part in the Laramie Soup Kitchen.

“Being a member of Wyo-Gold not only is beneficial now while we are students but after. Our motto is ‘Students Today, Cowboys Forever’,” said Miller.  “So we want to provide as much as we can for members [while] they are students and after they graduate, like our Cowboy to Cowboy interviews.”

Cowboy to Cowboy is one of the most unique things the program has to offer for their members. Not only do students get to mold their leaderships skills and be more active in their community, but they also get to focus on their career with Wyo-Gold. The RSO provides their members with the opportunity to interview alumni across the world who are connected to their future careers. This allows students to learn about what is ahead in regards to their careers and get some valuable insight in the life of a graduate.

Wyo-Gold is currently having a giveaway on their social media platforms. To enter their giveaways and to learn more about the RSO, check out their Facebook @wyogoldleadership or their Instagram @uwyogold. The giveaway will end on Dec. 9.
