Football season may not be in person; ‘no pause button on football’

The Mountain West Conference hopes to find ways to have sporting events that players and fans can enjoy while also complying to testing protocol.

“We are planning on having a season. The Mountain West conference will have a call today to discuss plans for the 2020 season,” said UW Head Football coach Bohl. “Our plan is to play, there is no pause button on football.”

The Director of Athletics Tom Burman said, “We are waiting for the conference to confirm the testing protocol but it looks like a test a week before every game.”

As of right now the Cowboys first football game is set for September 5 against Weber State University. If this game is going to happen is yet to be determined.

In talking with Coach Bohl, he said the football team has been on campus since June. The team came to campus in waves and has been undergoing tests and taking precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19 while preparing for football at the same time.

“Everyone works in groups and wears masks, the meals are pickup and no one eats on campus,” said Coach Bohl.

As of the moment, the team, the fans, and the other teams are waiting for the conference to determine if we will be in person. Not only the football team but the other sports at the university are waiting for the answer as well.

“To the fans, just know we are doing everything we can to keep the football team prepared,” said Coach Bohl. “Come watch us play and we will do it the Wyoming way and get it done and get the W.”
