Tutoring remains available in fall

Tutoring for courses in the fall will undergo changes due to COVID-19 regulations by splitting online and in-person tutoring options.

“All tutoring for the STEP Tutor Center, CASM, Tau Beta Pi, and the Language Lab is by appointment only,” says Jess Willford, the Project Coordinator for LeaRN and STEP. Appointments will be made using the app Penji, the download link for which will be found on the university’s STEP website.

The STEP tutoring center will have in-person tutoring available on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays with online tutoring done on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Appointments will be in 25-minute slots to allow for sanitation between tutoring sessions. Tutors will work behind sneeze guards and wear either face masks or face shields, and students will be expected to wear facial coverings as well. All sessions are limited to one-on-one tutoring.

CASM will have limited drop-in, in-person appointments while also offering online tutoring. Tau Beta Pi,  the Language Lab, the Writing Center, and the Oral Communication Center will be exclusively online at this time.

As done previously, tutors will be UW students offering course-based tutoring, even for online sessions. In general, online tutoring will take place over Zoom, with all subjects normally offered remaining available for tutoring. The classes offered for tutoring will vary based on the resource center used. Specifics can be found on the STEP website.

If students struggle with appointments with UW resources or need access to courses outside what is offered, Willford says “Students may also access NetTutor, which is an external service we provide. Tutors at NetTutor are not UW tutors, but are paid professional tutors who offer subject-based tutoring.” NetTutor is available year-round with a large variety of time slots for sessions.

Students with any further questions or concerns should contact Jess Willford at stepatuw@uwyo.edu
