Students intend to travel for holidays despite COVID-19

According to a poll on social media, it’s a 50/50 divide between UW students who’re traveling for the holidays versus those who are not. Some students went home weeks ago following the early change to Phase 4.

Coe Anderton, a biology major, said, “I came home to my moms a few weeks before Thanksgiving and I haven’t left! I’m fortunate to have been able to stay at home between holidays and spend them with most of my immediate family.”

Anderton responded to the poll and said they are not doing anymore traveling for the holidays.

A few students who are planning to travel responded to Branding Iron’s request for comment.

Deacon Schlichting, a junior studying criminal justice, said, “For the holidays, I’m spending it with family back home in Minnesota and working on the farm with my cows.”

Schlichting didn’t specify when he left Laramie.

Rohini Ghosh, a graduate student at UW, said, “If Colorado counts as traveling, then yes. I test every week and just got mine this Saturday. Since then, I’ve only been with my pod who has also tested. One couple in my pod is who I’m traveling with.”

Colorado has implemented a COVID-19 color dial for state restrictions based on counties. As of now, according to the site, most counties are under orange or red restrictions.
