Make the most of summer in Laramie this year

It’s finally here! School is out, graduation season is in our midst, the weather is getting warmer and the grass is getting greener. Summer is most definitely one of the most enjoyable times in Laramie, and with COVID-19 restrictions continuing to be lifted, there are plenty of options for fun activities.

As an avid lover of all kinds of foods, one of my favorite summer pastimes is simply sitting outside and enjoying lunch. Laramie has plenty of delicious restaurants with outdoor seating, including Born in a Barn, The Library, Sweet Melissa and Rib and Chop. If you’re craving a tasty meal and some summer warmth, make sure to visit one of these restaurants and bask in the sun.

Are you planning a summer night out with friends or the family? Bowling is an excellent option! Laramie Lanes offers open bowling at $3.50 per person each game and has a bar for the adults. I’ve always loved going bowling as a summer activity (for some reason, it’s more fun to me in the summer as opposed to other seasons) and I highly recommend it if you’re looking to have a good time with some friends.

If you’re leaning more towards cost-free activities, Laramie has an abundance of beautiful parks that are perfect for a game of frisbee, a long walk or hammocking. My personal favorite is LaBonte Park because it features a lovely lake, and summer walks around the lake are always enjoyable. I would also recommend checking out Undine Park and LaPrele Park for outdoor adventures.

Of course, we can’t forget about Laramie Jubilee Days. This year, they’re taking place July 3-11. Events include a carnival on July 7-10, a parade on the 10 and the wonderful Downtown Street Dances. Jubilee Days are a perfect way to bask in the summer air and enjoy the community of Laramie. This year is especially exciting because the events were cancelled last summer due to COVID restrictions, so the celebration will definitely be one to remember. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out!

Last, but certainly not least, I highly encourage you to make the 25-minute drive to Vedauwoo this summer. This beautiful recreation area has plenty of hiking trails and is a great place to try your hand at rock climbing. I absolutely love hiking here because there is so much to explore and take in, and the summer sunshine makes it even better.

So, whether you’re a Laramie local or you’re just passing through for a visit, I guarantee you will find activities to make the most out of this lovely season. Summers in Laramie are definitely unbeatable, so take ahold of the moment and have a blast!
