ASUW and Alpha Gamma Rho host free barbecue

Homecoming is a time of community and celebration, and few things say “community and celebration” like a free barbecue.

This Friday, October 22, ASUW is teaming up with the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at 11 a.m. and cooking food for students until 1 p.m. The barbecue will be in front of Ross Hall.

The barbecue will go until the 1 p.m. cutoff or until food supplies are exhausted. Students are advised to come earlier than later in order to ensure they get a free plate.

“We like to do as much as we can to give back to students and make sure that they’re getting some direct impact as well as the indirect impact we offer them,” said ASUW Vice President Colter Anderson.

ASUW members will be organizing and helping at the event, which has been planned alongside the other major events of homecoming week.

The hope that ASUW has for these events is that students feel welcomed on campus and excited to return to a more traditional experiences following the events of the past couple years.

“It’s Homecoming, so we want to be putting on fun events for students and making sure that we’re engaging with them and having a fun week,” said Anderson.

ASUW has endeavored to make this homecoming week a big return to campus. Planned events include the horseshoe hunt, the parade, and handing out t-shirts to students.

Erik Kahl of CSIL will also be announcing the winners of the homecoming challenge, further adding to the school pride and support on display at the event.

Alpha Gamma Rho will also get to engage with the UW community through this event. The fraternity will get the opportunity to give back to it in a way that blends food, philanthropy, and school pride.

“AGR has been a big help for us in the past, so we really appreciate them helping out again this year. They’re letting us use their big grill and giving us some help cooking and serving as well, so we really appreciate them and everything they do for students and for ASUW,” said Anderson.

Go out, get some free food, and show off your school pride this homecoming weekend. Go pokes!
