UW Cowgirl volleyball player wins Mountain West Freshman of the Week

Earlier this week, our very own Tierney Barlow was selected to be the Mountain West Freshman of the Week. It has been the first honor for any Cowgirl this 2022 season.

The freshman from Colorado Springs, Colorado and studying elementary education. Right before Barlow started her career at UW, her family moved out of Colorado and to Oklahoma.

Despite having her family move farther away, Barlow has been having a great kickoff to her season with winning Freshman of the Week in the Mountain West Conference in only the seventh week.

“I’m really honored. I didn’t expect it really and getting it just makes me want to work even harder. It motivates me.”

Barlow is happy with how her season has gone so far. The middle hitter believes being chosen for this honor is one of the best experiences this year along with the last two wins the team had.

“Our last two games were super fun. I love it. Something just clicked with the team in the last two games.”

As only a freshman, Barlow has set some goals for herself for the rest of the season and has hopes for team goals in the next coming years of her time on the volleyball team.

“I hope to continue getting wins with the team and helping them get those wins. I really want to get Freshman of the Year so I’m gonna continue working towards that. I just really want to have a fun rest of the season and finish the season strong.”

Outside of academics and volleyball, Barlow likes to bake and spend time with others.

“I love baking. When I was still living at home my mom and I baked a treat every Sunday. We always had treats on the counter.”

Barlow appreciates everything the volleyball team has to offer and it makes this experience all that better.

“Our coaches are very very helpful and they push us really hard. I love that they push us.”

By the time Barlow is a senior, she has thought about where she wants to see the team.

“As a team, I want to get ranked higher in the conference. I want to be one of the top teams in our conference and help my team get there.”
