UW beats MSU in women’s tennis

The University of Wyoming Cowgirls hosted the Metropolitan State University Denver Mustangs (MSUD) in a tennis match on Saturday, Feb.18. UW took the game in a 7-0 victory over MSU. 

The match opened with the doubles. Juniors Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova won the number 2 spot, with a narrow score of 7-5 against MSU’s Marie Cool and Hanna Haber.  

Next came graduate student Ana Fernandez and junior Lucia Malinak, who won the number 3 spot and beat MSUD’s Kambra Roles and Lilly Stienemeir 6-4.

Lastly, in the doubles round were freshman Violetta Borodina and graduate student Maria Oreshkina. They finished first in the doubles competition, beating MSU’s Kinsey Fields and Isabel Heras 6-3. 

Next came the singles round, in which six Cowgirls competed in and won. 

In first place was Oreshkina, who battled it out against Heras and won 6-3, 6-3. In second was Brink, who beat Fields 6-1, 6-1. 

Then came Dobrilova, who ended the singles tournament in third after beating Cool 3-6, 6-2, and 10-8.  Then came Fernandez, who beat Steinmeier 6-2 and 6-4. 

Rounding out the Cowgirls was Malink, who beat Roles 6-2, 6-2, and ended the day in 6th place. 

The Cowgirls will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they will play the Kansas City Roos on Feb. 25 and the Nebraska Huskers on Feb. 26.
