UW’s Barlow gets invited to national tryout

University of Wyoming freshman volleyball player, Tierney Barlow, was recently invited to try out for the USA Collegiate Volleyball team.

Colorado Springs, Colorado, hosted the tryouts at the end of February in the USA Olympic training center, which is coincidentally Barlow’s hometown.

“I’m just really honored that I got it. I was shocked. But it’s a really cool experience,” Barlow said.

Barlow was scouted through UW’s head volleyball coach Kaylee Prigge.

Unfortunately, the 6-foot-2 middle blocker did not make the 2023 team. Yet, Barlow feels she received an incredible opportunity to play alongside talented individuals.

“Oh my gosh, it was so much fun. I met so many cool people, [it] was the best experience,” Barlow said. “I was just really honored to get that invite because it’s really difficult to get that.”

“I just really wanted to go and play with some really good players and get some really good coaching.”

The opportunity to try out for the USA Collegiate Volleyball Team is not the first time Barlow has been recognized in the sport. In the fall of 2022, she won the Mountain West Freshman of the year award, and was also named to the All-Tournament Team at USA Volleyball Nationals. Prior to college, Barlow was an All-Star Colorado Team member in high school.

Since her time at UW, Barlow has recorded 77 sets where in total, she lobbied 142 kills, 22 digs, and 61 block assists. She averaged 184.5 points throughout the whole 2022 season.

Barlow is now focusing on the 2023 season, with the Cowgirls facing off against the University of Colorado for their next preseason game at the Uniwyo Sports Complex on April 15.

“I think this season is gonna be really good,” Barlow said. “We got some really good players on our team, so I’m excited.”
