Cowgirl tennis wins Mountain West Conference

Cowgirls Tennis end their regular season on top of the Mountain West Conference, and are the outright MW champions. 

They played the New Mexico Lobos at a neutral site in Fort Collins, and won with an assertive score of 4-0. With this they won the honors for the first time in program history. 

Their clinching match versus New Mexico was absolute domination from the Cowgirls. 

They finished the season with conference record of 9-1, and 14-9 overall. UNVL trailed closely trailed, finishing one win behind UW with a conference record of 8-2.

The Mountain West Championships are the next stop for the Cowgirls, where they have been awarded a first round bye, and will play the winner of San Jose State and New Mexico. 

They will begin postseason play on Thursday, April 27. 

Aside from ending the season atop the conference, the cowgirls also swept the board with Mountain West players of the week, with Sophie Zehender winning MW women’s player of the week, and Violetta Borodina winning MW women’s freshman of the week. 

They swept in doubles play, the tandems of Borodina and Oreshkina, Brink and Dobrilova, both won their matches 6-1. A dominant performance from some of the strongest duos in the Mountain West. 

As for singles, the Cowgirls took care of business with three straight wins to sweep the Lobos. 

Zehender, Oreshkina, and Borodina all won their matches. 

Prior to their match against New Mexico, the Cowgirls tied for the conference title with their win against Air Force, where they created the opportunity to make UW history. 

They beat the Falcons 4-2, and were able to set themselves up to win the Mountain West. 

Doubles was not their strong suit this match, but they made up for it in singles play, with Zehender, Oreshkina, Borodina, and Dobrilova all notching wins in their matches. 

A historic season will soon come to a close for the Cowgirls, as they look ahead to a possible victory in the Mountain West Championships.
