Cowboys end season with spring game

The Cowboys were back at War Memorial Stadium for one last football game in front of UW fans this school year for the Brown vs Gold spring game.

UW’s spring game is a chance for new recruits and returning players to display their skills and get real game reps in front of Cowboy faithful one last time before the summer.

The Gold team got the win 17-10 over the Brown team in an eventful close to their spring campaign.

After fans piled into the stadium from their tailgates and such, the Brown team fumbled the ball off the bat, putting the ball into starting quarterback (QB) Andrew Peasley’s hands.

Peasley didn’t get a chance to throw off the start however, instead, Gold ran a philly special-esque play where wide receiver (WR) Wyatt Wieland tried a pass to tight end (TE) Treyton Welch.

Gold would then go on to score the first touchdown of the game, courtesy of Jeremy Hollingsworth.

The junior running back (RB) is making a strong case for the starting back role next year in what seems to be an open competition.

In the first half, starting QB Andrew Peasley displayed poise and confidence. Throughout the game, he made a few crowd pleasing throws that kept fans on their feet.

Peasley would end the game with 100 passing yards and two interceptions.

Another Gold team RB would go on to score, with L.J. Richardson punching in touchdown number two for the squad sending them to a 14-0 lead.

A few impressive defensive plays were shown off as well, with defensive end (DE) Keelan Cox retrieving a fumble. The sophomore transferred from University of Alabama before joining the Pokes.

The Brown team would finally get on the board,  when Tyrecus Davis picked off Peasley and ran in for a touchdown as the half expired.

Kicker, John Hoyland swapped field goals for both teams, first a 27 yarder for the Gold team, and a 32 yarder for the Brown team for what would be the last points scored in the Cowboys spring game.

QB Jayden Clemons would end up topping Peasley by two yards with 102.

The Cowboys will be back in War Memorial Stadium on September 2, 2023 to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders to kick off their 2023-24 season.
