Cowgirls soccer takes first loss

The Wyoming women’s soccer faced a tough defeat on Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Madrid Sports Complex, losing 3-0 to Idaho state in their last non-conference home game.

It was an unexpected loss and setback to the Cowgirls, being their first loss of the season.
Within 12 minutes, (F) Mary Za of Idaho state scored from a corner kick by (MF) Meagan Tamashiro.
This caught the Cowgirls off guard, motivating them to fight back.

In the 45th minute, however, Idaho State’s (F) Kaylyn Buchanan scored once again to bring the score to 2-0 in favor of the Bengals. The Cowgirls looked disheartened compared to the previous week’s win.

Heading into halftime, the Cowgirls appeared frustrated. Despite taking shots, the Bengal’s goalkeeper had already made three saves, compared to the Cowgirls’ one, each team having taken 6 shots towards a goal.

After the half, at the 46th minute, (F) Buchanan scored again off of a free kick to extend the Bengal’s lead and to seal the game. For the remainder of the game there was no further scoring with the final score at 3-0 in favor of Idaho State.

Regardless of making 14 goal attempts, compared to Idaho’s 8, Wyoming wasn’t able to capitalize on those chances. (F) Jazi Barela led the Cowgirls with 4 goal attempts, and with her second start, (GK) Haley Bartel had 2 saves.

Idaho State’s goalie Kelsey Jargstorf led the Bengal’s to their win with 7 saves.
The loss marked the first of the season for the Cowgirls as they fall to 3-1-2 while the Idaho State Bengals improved to 1-6.

The Wyoming Cowgirls travel to Louisville on Sunday, Sept. 10 for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
