Board of Trustees September summary

The Board of Trustees met from Sept. 20-22 to discuss financial and construction decisions for the University of Wyoming and its students.

One of the items discussed was adding a trailhead on the UW Jacobi ridge property. They plan to have a trailhead that provides parking, comfort facilities, restrooms, and gathering spaces.

The main concern with the new construction project is the fact that it operates under a vault system, meaning it does not use water flush toilets, which may be in violation of the City of Laramie health and safety regulations.

Next on the agenda was a proposed increase of $220,470 to student dining and housing.
This stems from the continuous project of making the University of Wyoming a “walkable” campus by introducing increased safety measures for pedestrians.

This, if approved, would include the installment of a roundabout at the intersections found at Ivinson and Willet street, with a new transit stop located between them.

Additionally, there was discussion of an auditorium exterior design for a swimming pool.
Of the two pool designs, the 51 million dollars blueprint includes having a fifty-meter pool with a diving board, whereas the other includes a separate diving pool at the increased expense of another six million dollars.

Lastly, the budget committee introduced a new idea to help fill seats in classes. They discussed opening UW to students who are not already enrolled.

Instead of offering courses to only UW students, they discussed opening the doors and offering courses to non-UW students.

The next Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Nov. 15-17, 2023.
