Wyoming Football’s Offensive Line Named to Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll

The Wyoming Cowboy football team’s offensive line was named to the Joe Moore Award midseason honor roll this week.

The Cowboys were named to the midseason honor roll alongside 23 other FBS programs, including prestigious football programs such as Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oregon. Mountain West opponent Air Force was also named to the midseason honor roll as well.

The Joe Moore Award is an award given to the best offensive line in college football. The award is named after one of the most esteemed offensive line coaches in college football history, Joe Moore, who was an offensive line coach at both Notre Dame and Pittsburgh and was responsible for sending 52 players to the NFL during his 18 years coaching.

“The offensive line units on the 2023 Midseason Honor Roll have caught the attention of the committee through the October 14 weekend, by demonstrating some or all of the award criteria in a recognizable way,” said Cole Cubelic, chairman of the Joe Moore Award voting committee.

“The bar will raise significantly from here, and the consistency required to earn further recognition will be how the elite units eventually separate themselves.”

The Cowboy’s tough offensive line has recorded 146 knockdown blocks in 7 games, giving them an average of 16 knockdowns per game. This has allowed a battered Cowboy’s running back and quarterback room to average 5.3 yards per carry.

The award has been presented since 2015. The past award recipients since that time include Alabama, Michigan, Iowa, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and LSU.

The semifinals of the Joe Moore Award will be announced on Nov. 14th and the finalists will be announced on Dec. 5th.

The winner will be announced through a surprise visit to their campus by the award committee in late December.
