Summer in Laramie offers many activities to do both in and around town. I’ve written previously about hiking outside of town and going to the museum, but what if you’re in the mood for something outdoors, but still in town? Well, look no further than the local farmers’ market! Running from June 20 through September 26 this year (with closures on July 4 and 11) the market welcomes visitors every Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., offering a rich variety of fresh produce, handcrafted goods, and lively entertainment.
The Farmer’s Market is held near the historic Railroad Depot and is a great place to meet up with friends if you’re looking for a way to kick off Friday night. The location makes it incredibly easy to walk to any other area you’d want to go to in town, so if you’re looking to head to the bars afterwards or get a bit to eat at a more sit-down place, all are available nearby.
A wide variety of goods are sold, from farm-fresh produce to candles, and prepared meals. One of my favorite places I visited was Need More Salsa, which offered a plethora of free samples and delicious salsas! When asked about why they enjoyed the farmer’s market, a visitor who chose to remain anonymous stated, “I think it’s really fun, and I’m glad that Laramie has done this for as long as I’ve lived here! There are lots of things that I think you can probably only get here, and it’s really cool to see the community come together to host something.” Another shopper echoed a similar sentiment, stating, “It’s more than just a place to buy things, it’s like a mini festival every week. It’s normally a lot more quiet here in the summer, so it’s nice to see people getting out.”
With vendors offering everything from homemade baked goods and fresh-cut flowers to handcrafted jewelry and herbal products, it’s a showcase of what we in Laramie have to offer. One of the most important aspects of the market is its emphasis on Laramie’s community, and nonprofit organizations regularly set up booths to share resources on nutrition and wellness, as well as various other local causes. Additionally, the market also partners up with programs like Double Up Food Bucks to make healthy food more accessible to those using SNAP benefits.
So whether you’re looking for local ingredients for your next meal, a unique handmade gift, or just a pleasant way to spend a Friday evening, the Laramie Farmers Market has you covered. Come down to First Street, soak in the summer sunshine, and see what makes this weekly event a special part of life in Laramie.
