Recent Changes Aim to Ease Freshmen Move-In

With a fully functional roundabout and a new residence hall, move-in for Saddle Up will look a bit different this year. New students attending Saddle Up will move in on Friday, August 15. Rather than a first-come, first-served check-in process, there will be a newly implemented staggered move-in schedule. This new system will hopefully reduce traffic and overcongested areas that typically result from the standard procedure. Time slots are assigned for each floor allowing residents to efficiently move into their rooms without concern of overcrowded elevators, long lines, or not enough carts.

Beyond the updated intersection and check-in process, there are a few other things to keep in mind when moving into the residence halls. Libby Moore shares her advice for living in the dorms as she enters her fourth year of residence. “Patience is key, and also understanding this is everybody’s first time,” Moore said. “Everybody is scared and everybody’s excited. Your parents are just as scared as you are.”

Moore further emphasized the importance of spending time with your family and loved ones during this process. If you and your family have some downtime while moving in, you can stop by the basement of Washakie and visit the One Stop Shop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Family Basecamp. The One Stop Shop can help students and their families answer any questions they may have. Here you will have the chance to speak to individuals from Disability Support Services, UWPD, Scholarships & Financial Aid, and more.
