In collaboration with Backwards Distilling Company from Casper, the State of Wyoming and the UW Athletics Department are releasing a new UW themed whiskey called “Pretty Good Horse Bourbon.” This collaboration will be underway as the UW football season starts up and features a variety of references to university culture. From the Ragtime Cowboy Joe reference in its name to the classic steamboat bucking horse logo, and the iconic brown and gold colors, this whiskey embodies UW’s spirit.

In accordance with a university release, UW Athletics Director Tom Burman said, “We are very excited for this collaboration with Backwards Distilling Company,” He then went on to add, “The product and packaging of Pretty Good Horse Bourbon is special and unique, highlighting this great state in a celebratory fashion. We are very thankful for this collaboration to give our fans a Wyoming branded bourbon at their local stores and at our athletics events.”

The bourbon will be a straight: aged in Wyoming in barrels designed to embody Wyoming flavor profiles and accents. The brand will launch sometime this August if all goes well in perfect timing for the jumpstart of the anticipated football season.

The release also included quotations from the Co-Founder of Backwards Distilling, Amber Pollock, “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to partner with the University of Wyoming on this special branded whiskey. As a Wyoming-based distillery and UW alumni, we take great pride in celebrating our state’s spirit — both in the bottle and in the community. Collaborating with UW allows us to showcase Wyoming craftsmanship, connect with students, alumni, and fans, and create something truly unique that everyone can raise a glass to.”

The bourbon will be sold by the state of Wyoming, directly on a website called Big Thirst. When available it will likely sell out quite quickly due to the nature of distillation and the popularity of UW branded products in Wyoming.
