The Wyoming Cowgirls hosted three opponents over the weekend, narrowly dropping their first two matches but sweeping their last to grab a 1-2 record for the invitational.
The opening match with Long Beach State was a back and forth that lasted all night. The Cowgirls grabbed an early win in the first set but Long Beach quickly evened the score. In the third set, the Cowgirls were down 20-15 in the closing stages before executing a 10-2 run that saw them grab another win. Long Beach State won the fourth, and it came down to a 13-13 tie in the fifth before Long Beach snatched the set and left the arena with a win.
The next match with Idaho State would prove to be just as disappointing unfortunately, with the Cowgirls dropping the match in 5 sets once again after leading 2-1 heading into the fourth. The final set was knotted up at 14 before Idaho State was able to close out the game and leave the Cowgirls 0-2 on the weekend.
Looking for redemption, the Cowgirls were able to find it in their last match with Portland, sweeping them in front of the home crowd and ending the weekend on a high note. They went 25-18, 25-21, and 25-20 to end the invitational with a 1-2 record.
Addy Cook was the scoring leader for the Cowgirls over the weekend, recording 15 kills on each of the first two nights and 11 on Saturday afternoon to lift the Cowgirls to their lone win. Skylar Erickson had 25 digs, a career high, in each of the first two matches and added 7 against Portland to shine despite the losses.
The Cowgirls will now head into their conference slate at 4-7 after a slew of weekend tournaments, and are set to host CSU for the Border War this Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 PM.
