Beyond the Classroom: Fall Intramural Sports

The University of Wyoming offers a plethora of opportunities to connect with others through shared hobbies, making new friends, and breaking out of your regular class routine. Students can participate in intramural sports as one of their available opportunities. The intramural sports season began in August and continue until December 3rd with numerous sports and activities available for participants. Students can select from team sports including basketball, soccer, and volleyball as well as relaxed games like cornhole and ultimate frisbee. The intramural programs welcome all students, regardless of athletic ability, with an emphasis on enjoyment and accessibility. The program features no competitive requirements and no selection process as it focuses on recreational sports activities that promote physical activity.

The intramural season started in September with numerous activities which will continue to run throughout the months ahead. The Rec Fields have become active with flag football and soccer games because their three-week leagues will enter their playoff stages soon. Students choose to play pickleball and 3v3 basketball tournaments on the courts because these games provide quick-paced competitive matches with brief game lengths. The traditional sports schedule received an exciting twist through the addition of Frisbee golf and the Jacoby Golf Scramble and the interactive “Wheel of Sportune” events. Students should join intramural activities right now because numerous options remain available throughout the fall season.

The intramural schedule for October brings competitive and casual one-day tournaments which maintain their exciting nature. The volleyball league at Half Acre’s Historic Gym will start on October 26th as one of the month’s main attractions. The three-week volleyball league with playoffs provides an excellent opportunity for teams to experience quick-paced competition which suits both competitive and recreational players.

Students who want to play table tennis can participate in a tournament at Half Acre starting on October 30th. The tournament provides an excellent chance for solo competitors to demonstrate their abilities while experiencing a stress-free environment that maximizes enjoyment. The Prexy’s Pasture location hosts bucket gold on October 18th which combines precise gameplay with recreational fun in an open-air environment.

The intramural schedule for November and early December brings additional opportunities for students to maintain their physical activity and social connections before the academic term concludes. Students can participate in Fantasy Football and the Golf Simulator Competition throughout the semester, as these events provide flexible and self-paced intramural activities that work with any schedule. During the winter months, Half Acre becomes the main venue for indoor sports, offering students a chance to take a break from schoolwork and participate in various intramural activities before winter break.

Students who want to win championships or would like to learn more about intramural sports and join activities should check the Intramural Sports page and download the Fusion Play app which exists on Apple and Google stores. After creating an account with your UWyo email, you can browse upcoming sports, join or create a team, and stay up to date with the game schedules, but don’t forget to sign the liability waiver!
