What Might You Get Up to This Spring Season?

With the way the weather’s been looking, it almost feels like Springtime in Laramie has been here the whole time! Or at least arrived surprisingly early. Birds are chirping, and I’ve even seen hints of green grass poking up from areas of the prairie. So; how can you take advantage of this great weather that’s only getting better? Luckily, the Branding Iron has you covered with a wide range of ideas for anyone, from the most intrepid outdoorsman to the quietest bookworm!

One obvious idea that I’m sure you’ve considered at least once while living here is going on a hike! A hike can be a delightful activity for anyone; whether you like hanging out with people or just getting out in nature alone. There are some amazing trails around Laramie for both experienced and inexperienced hikers, as well as great camping areas to make your stay a longer one if you wish to experience all that Laramie’s outdoors have to offer. One of the easiest and most scenic trails in close proximity to Laramie is the Turtle Rock Trail in Vedauwoo, which is a breezy 3 miles and takes around 1-2 hours to complete, depending on your speed. Another great place to check out if you’re a more experienced hiker is the Old Rock Quarry Road Loop Trail, which is located near Alight Laramie. Good place to go if you live there!

What if you like hiking, but don’t want to be the one doing the hiking? If you’re an experienced horseback rider, maybe consider going on a trail ride! There are plenty of organizations in town that offer trail rides even to more inexperienced riders. If you still aren’t confident, springtime is a great time to pick up Horseback riding, one of Wyoming’s most stereotypical (but fun!) activities; there are a plethora of horseback riding instructors in town, why not give it a go?

But what if you hate the outdoors and all of those mosquitos, bears, and mountain lions? Well, lucky for you, Laramie has a plethora of things to do indoors as well. Although you can do it all year long, why don’t you try using the energy of the new Spring Semester to join a club you’ve been considering? The University has something for pretty much anyone, and it can be a great way to find a likeminded community of people to interact with. Popular clubs include the Cowboy Country Swing Club, Model Arab League, The Anime Club, or maybe you should join up with ASUW! If you hate all of those and just want to write, well… We’re hiring!

There’s a whole lot of things to do here in Laramie in the Springtime, so don’t let this abnormally warm time in Laramie go to waste! You just might find your next new group of friends, a fun activity you had no idea about, or even just peace and contentment out in nature. You never know!
