The Cowgirls played Idaho State in the second game of the Idaho State tournament. The Cowgirls are coming off a 5-set win against Boise State. Wyoming came in tonight with the plan of winning and that they did as they swept the Tigers in 3: 25-19, 25-21, 25-22. The Cowgirls dominated the first set as they had multiple 4-point scoring run. The Cowgirls were able to get up to a 14-7 lead before Idaho State took a timeout. Coming out of the time out the tigers were able to catch up to the Cowgirls and got within 2 well, that wasn’t enough to hold off the Cowgirls as they finished the set 25-19.
After using the first set to warm up both teams got into a real groove. The second set was much more back and forth even though the first couple of points were service errors. Both teams went back-to-back with multiple kills and aces. The teams finally got a break when Wyoming called a timeout as they were falling behind to the Tigers 8-13. The Cowgirls used the timeout to get their strength back; they came back and were able to get within 3 before Idaho State called a timeout for the score of 14 – 17. The teams continue to battle back and forth when finally, Idaho State had to call another time out as Wyoming was within one. Set score at 20-21. This time out is what the Cowgirls needed as after that they didn’t look back and they won the set 25-21.
The 3rd and final set was nothing but offense! The Cowgirls started the game off with three kills and one ace. After the time out it again was kills and aces for both teams. The first error came when the score was 8- 7 followed by a second error to make the score 9-7 with the Cowgirls on top. After the two error’s the next 10 points were kills. The rest of the game was a combination of kills followed by an unfortunate error followed by kills. Wyoming took a timeout with a score of 21-20 with Idaho State on top. After the timeout Wyoming finished the game fast and powerful with kills. Score 25 – 22.
The Cowgirls have had a wonderful Idaho State tournament as they are now 2-0 in the tournament. Stay tuned to the Branding Iron as we cover their last game of the Idaho State tournament tomorrow against Pacific.
