Volleyball coach with 4 seasons under her belt

This week’s Coach Spotlight is UW volleyball head coach Kaylee Prigge. She has been the Cowgirls’ head coach for four seasons and is entering her eighth season overall with the program. Prigge spent two seasons as the associate head coach and was the recruiting coordinator for three seasons before becoming head coach.
“Well, I always think that the most rewarding part of my job, not just specific to this season, we get to know these kids in the start of the recruiting process when they’re as young as 16 and then they leave here when they graduate when they’re 21 or 22. Just seeing the people they become and knowing that they’re ready to tackle what’s next, I think is the most rewarding part of my job and just the relationship that we get to have for the rest of their lives, past even them playing at UW” Said Coach Prigge.
“Within this season so far, is a microcosm of that. Growth within what we’re trying to achieve on the volleyball court, like learning, growing and for this group, we’ve seen some maturity over the last four weeks and non-conference. But seeing them have fun, seeing them bond together and then the journey overall this season” Said Coach Prigge.
Notable accomplishments for Prigge include guiding the Cowgirls to their first Mountain West Championship Tournament in 2025. Wyoming went 13-5 in conference play and earned the No. 1 seed at the tournament. In her first season as head coach, she guided the Cowgirls to their first postseason appearance since 2019, as UW advanced to the Super 16 round of the NIVC. Prigge led the Cowgirls to a 22-10 overall record in her first season and guided the squad to an 11-0 start, the best start in program history.
“Our team is OBSESSED with a game on their phone called Among Us. That was decently popular a few years ago and during Covid and for some reason has come back amongst our team. Every waking minute that they’re together, especially on road trips that isn’t dedicated to volleyball, they are competing in Among Us. They all have funny screen names. It gets very heated very fast. I’ve never been on a louder bus than I have this year” Said Coach Prigge.
Prior to coming to UW, Prigge spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois Chicago. There, she helped lead the Flames to two straight seasons of 17 wins or more. In 2018, the Flames finished fourth in the Horizon League, reaching 10 conference wins for the first time since 2012.
Prior to arriving at UIC, Prigge served as an assistant coach at Southern Illinois, where she was key in planning the program’s recruiting efforts, organizing summer camps and handling day-to-day office operations.
Prigge started her collegiate volleyball career at Tampa, where she played from 2010 to 2012. She was a member of three SSC and Southern Region championship squads. Prigge obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of Tampa in May 2014.
“I really like interior design and fashion. I don’t know how much time I spend on it, but we moved over the summer, so I’ve made a couple of house purchases recently, but I’m behind right now with the season starting. But I enjoy that stuff for sure” said Coach Prigge.
