Football players model uniforms, talk X's and O's

The University of Wyoming’s Athletic Department wined-and-dined ladies Saturday at a football fashion show and informational session at Wildcatter Club and Suites.

“Talking X’s and O’s” is an annual event hosted by Suzie Christensen, wife of Head football Coach Dave Christensen. The event allowed women to talk football with the Wyoming Cowboys and their coaches to understand what the game is all about.

All proceeds made from the event go toward the Cowboys for Kids Program. The program funds children from around Wyoming to attend UW football games, which they ordinarily would not be able to afford.

Both players and coaches were brought out to talk about their positions and the importance of those positions on the team.

The women were introduced to many members of the coaching staff including assistant Head Coach Pete Kaligis, Offensive Coordinator Gregg Brandon, Run-Game Coordinator Jim Harding and Defensive Line Coach Derrick LeBlanc.

The upcoming 2012 season’s team captains put on the fashion show. Senior linebacker Korey Jones, senior strong safety Luke Ruff, senior center Nick Carlson and sophomore quarterback Brett Smith modeled their old and new uniforms, generating some excitement among the crowd.

The women also heard from Suzie Christensen, who discussed her personal experiences with football and the hard work it has taken their family to get where they are today.

After her introduction she, quizzed the ladies on how the game is played. Names of attendees were placed into a drawing and chosen to receive several door prizes given by local businesses for their attendance.

With the event both raising quite a bit of money and creating an afternoon of laughter and enjoyment, it’s safe to say that it is an annual event that the University hopes to keep around for the years to come.
