Move-in day draws a crowd

More than one thousand students and parents crowded the residence halls Thursday as freshmen and transfer students made their debut at the University of Wyoming.

Sarae Dydo, an incoming freshman from Southern California, is one of UW’s newest additions.

“I think this year’s going to be really good,” Dydo said. In addition to being a new student, Dydo also is a member of the swim team. “UW came to my school to recruit for the swim team here, and that’s why I’m here.”

Other student athletes also were excited about their introduction to campus on Thursday.

“I’m really excited. It’s all really crazy and I’m just ready to get this year started,” freshman Dante Martinez said. Martinez will be one of the newest members of the UW Spirit Squad.

Older students also moved in over the weekend and had different perspectives this time than in previous years.

“It was a lot easier and smoother this time,” Will Burns said. “It wasn’t as stressful this time around.” Burns is a senior who moved into Crane Hall over the weekend.

This year’s move in day added new anticipation as the Bison Run Village university apartments were filled to capacity. According to its website there is a waiting list for this semester.

The Bison Run Village apartment complex was built within the last year and was only recently completed, making it one of the newest university apartment complexes in conjunction with The Grove, which has not yet been fully completed.

Even with the new off-campus living facilities, most of the excitement remained near the residence halls.

Residence Life and Dining Services staff member Chris Quick assisted with parking during move-ins.

“It’s been a really busy today, but everyone’s gotten in and out pretty easily,” Quick said.

“The only complaint I really heard today was that the thirty minute parking limit wasn’t long enough to unload everything and a lot of parents and students were confused about the whole parking situation. But other than that everything went well.”
