The Christensen Stink

Well, the cat is officially out of the bag. Wyoming Football still stinks. With all the missed open field tackles, blown coverages and running bubble screens on 3rd and nine, its like Dave Christensen never left! His stink seeps through every crack in Laramie from Alamanza’s to the Boot Barn.

We all thought Craig Bohl was going to make a difference, and the only thing that has changed is the fact that Brett Smith (TRAITOR! TRAITOR! TRAITOR!) is no longer with the team.

We all thought Craig Bohl was going to make a difference, and the only thing that has changed is the fact that Brett Smith (TRAITOR! TRAITOR! TRAITOR!) is no longer with the team. I hate to be harsh to the Wyoming program because Christensen’s fingerprints are still all over this team. It would be ridiculous to expect a one-year turn around from a marginal spread-option scheme, to a two tight-end power run mindset. Bohl needs at least two to three more recruiting classes to really start making the turn here in Laramie. Just look at his tenure at North Dakota State. He won three straight national championships with the Bison, but only after starting his first three years 6-5, 3-8 and 9-5 respectively.

After Bohl was able to establish his own identity in Fargo, he lost a grand total of two games. Patience is a virtue. Patience is something I do not have. I really thought Bohl would coach up this current team and get them to a bowl appearance. This team is simply so talent deprived and lacking coherency, we are left with the product that is. This does not mean they lack heart.

Any team, especially a Christensen team, would have given up multiple times through out this season. Down three to Air Force, down two to Florida Atlantic with under two minutes remaining and being down 28 points in Fort Collins were all times the team could have said ‘eff this’ and quit. Instead Wyoming went into ‘eff you’ mode and either won or, in the case of the CSU game, brought it within two scores. We can thank Bohl for that. The other bright side is now Bohl will not be leaving for Nebraska after this season. If he goes 3-9 with Wyoming, the Cornhuskers will not want to touch him with a 9 ½ foot pole. Bo Pelini also has Nebraska primed for a B1G championship run, so his job is safe. So not all is lost Wyoming! We just need to be patient and let Bohl work his magic. By no means will Wyoming win three straight national championships, but why not Mountain West championships? Christensen’s stink just needs blow out of Laramie.
