Got the (country) club going up on a Tuesday

In case you didn’t know or didn’t see the thousands of booths that were set up repping Brett Eldredge and Iron & Wine tickets, Brett Eldredge is coming to the University of Wyoming. “When?” you might be asking yourself. The answer is, today. Eldredge is the performer of such country hits as: “Don’t Ya,” “Beat of the Music” and “Mean to Me”.

In 2014, Brett Eldredge won New Artist of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards and this win is what got the wheels moving at Concerts and Convocations (CAC) to really bring Eldredge to campus.

“After winning New Artist of the Year I knew it was now or never for us,” Maddy Graham, lead student programmer of Concerts and Convocations, said. Graham has had her eye on Eldredge for quite some time now, and finally after three attempts CAC was able to get Brett to come to the University of Wyoming.

“I actually tried to get him a couple years ago for a small ballroom show,” said Graham. We looked at him again last year but were unable to make dates work and this year, third time was the charm.”

The process of bringing musical acts to the university is tedious and long, and there are many steps that go into it, said Graham. The initial step is doing a brainstorming session with all of the volunteers at CAC to come up with a list of names for possible candidates. The next step is contacting those on the list to see who is available. Those who aren’t available get crossed off the list. The final step is going back and talking to the group and seeing which candidate the collective decides upon, Graham said.

“There are so many things that go into bringing artists like this. We start early in the morning with production and we’ve been working preparations for the show for months, I’m excited to see all the hard work of many people come to life that evening,” Graham said.

The show will be held in the Arts and Sciences auditorium, the doors open at 7 p.m. and the show commences at 8 p.m.
