Cowgirl tennis swept Colorado State 7-0 Saturday in Ft. Collins, Colorado. The conference victory marked the end of the Cowgirls’ regular season, finishing with an overall record of 10-11, and 3-2 in the MW conference.

“I thought we were very professional today as the way we played and went about,” Cowgirl tennis head coach Dean Clower told gowyo.com. “We executed the small details very well today. We will take a couple of days to recover and be ready to go again at the MW.”

Beginning in doubles, Wyoming dominated, taking all three matches against its Rams opponents. Getting into the swing of things, Cowgirl duo Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva defeated Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles slot.

Dorottya Jonas and Miranda Talbert followed with a 6-1 victory over Maddie Buxton and Caroline Henderson in the last doubles slot.

Wrapping up the double action and taking the point for Wyoming was Tessa van Der Ploeg and Elisa Koonik, who beat Emily Kolbow and Celine Voss 6-1.

The winning momentum carried into doubles action, as the Cowgirls overtook all six of their opponents in singles matches.

Stencel defeated Laia Hernandez 6-1, 6-0 in the first singles slot.

Jonas overtook Hernandez Soler 6-1, 6-2 to put the Cowgirls up on the Rams 3-0.

In the fifth and sixth singles positions, Hoekstra beat Porter 6-3, 6-0 and van Der Ploeg had the upper hand over Voss 6-0, 6-3.

Cowgirl tennis will be playing in the first round 2016 MW Tennis Championship in Fort Collins Friday at the sixth seed. The Cowgirls will be going back up against the Colorado State Rams, currently at the 11th seed.

“Every match is different that you play. We will obviously know what we have to do to beat Colorado State and the same against us,” Coach Clower said. “It probably won’t be the same type of match like last weekend. At the end of the day, if we keep implementing what we’ve been practicing we will be fine.”

The match is set for 2 p.m. at the University Tennis Complex, but is subject to change due to expected inclement weather.
