Win or stay home

The Wyoming football team still has a shot to play in the postseason, but they will have to win the rest of their games in order to do so.

After starting the year 2-2 in their nonconference schedule the Cowboys would lose their first four conference gram and would drop to 2-6 on the season. Wyoming would also lose possession of two their traveling trophies, the Paniolo Trophy would be won be Hawaii and will remain there until the two teams play each other again in two more seasons. Utah State would win back Bridergers Rifle after Wyoming had possession of the trophy for the past two seasons.

“I was saying before (the CSU) game that we need to go 5-0,” said senior runningback Nicco Evans following the CSU game. “Four regulars season games and a bowl game. Now it is four we have to win. That is everyone’s goal right now.”

Wyoming would be facing bowl game elimination and losing the Bronze Boot when they headed down to Fort Collins this past weekend. Wyoming would make a change at quarterback by starting true freshman Sean Chambers over redshirt freshman Tyler Vander Waal who had started the first six games. Wyoming would have a more consistent offense that would allow them to take care of business on the road and defeat CSU easily by a score of 34-21.

With this Wyoming improve to 3-6 on the season and gain confidence as they head into their last quarter of the season. Wyoming has already played those teams ranking in the top half of the conference and now have left teams in the bottom half of the conference.

Wyoming faces San Jose State, who is currently second to last in their division, at home this weekend. Wyoming will have their second bye week of the year following the San Jose State game, then they will have their final home game against Air Force the next weekend who currently is tied at the bottom of the Mountain Divison with Wyoming and New Mexico. Wyoming will finish the year on the road at New Mexico.

If Wyoming is able to sweep their last three games then they will finish the year 6-6 and be bowl eligible. While this does not guarantee them a bowl game it allows the chance for a postseason game. It may not the be the game they want, but it would still be a good send off for all of the seniors.

Wyoming is also an attractive team to bring to a bowl game because of how well their fans travel. This may help Wyoming receive a bid simply because the fans can boost the economy of any town they visit.

While all three games are needed, Wyoming still will be taking things one game at a time.
