Men’s Golf goes and plays with the Cougars

The Men’s Wyoming Golf team competed at BYU Ping Cougar Classic on Saturday. Freshman Tyler Severin had a career-best finish this weekend helping the Cowboys to eighth place. Severin had a final round 70(-2) to finish the tournament with a 54-hole total of 214 (-2) and tied for 18th place, while Dan Starzinkski finished one stroke back to have a 215(-1) and tied for 22nd place. The Wyoming Cowboys finished the tournament with a team score of 871 (+7).

This was the first time freshman Severin had completed a tournament under par, and it marked the second Top 25 finish of his freshman season. He ended his final rounds birdieing three of his final six holes (13th, 16th, and 17th) and the eagle the 15th.

Starzinki ended in 22nd-place showing at 215 (-1). This helped him get his eight Top 25 finish in 12 tournaments. Senior John Murdock tied for 30th, Freshman Kirby Coe-Kirkham tied for 67th and sophomore Carl Underwood finished 90th to help round out the Cowboys’ scoring. Also, freshman Jared Edeen tied for 30th and Jimmy Dales tied for 60th. He competed individually from the team.

“I’m happy for Tyler, He played well today, and played well particularly late in the round,” said Joe Jensen to Wyoming Athletics, “He didn’t get off to a great start, but I was really proud of the way he played on the back nine. It was really a teaching moment for out young guys. You just have to hang in there for the entire 18 holes. I think it was good for all our young guys to see one of them play really well.”

The Wyoming Cowboys will compete at the Mountain West Championships, which starts on Friday and ends Sunday at the OMNI Tucson National in Tucson, Arizona.
