Virtual job fair tomorrow

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 12 to 3 p.m. there is a virtual job fair for students to attend.

“I think this is a great way for students to connect directly with a recruiter for a job or internship,” said Director of Advising, Career and Exploratory Studies Jo Chytka. “This one on one experience is much better than applying online and hoping to get an interview.”

There will be 22 employers tomorrow at the job fair. There are also more scheduled job fairs on October 21, 27 and 28 according to Chytka.

“I am planning on attending the job fair because I feel like this is a good event that will allow me to meet many people around the area that are looking to hire students like me,” said Bailey Vogler, a senior majoring in communications. “I have gone over the years of attending the university to see what companies and people come looking to hire young students. I am looking forward to hopefully reconnecting with them.”

Vogler has attended one of UW’s job fairs in the past and said it went very well. She said she was able to introduce herself and speak to a couple companies and ranches. Vogler said her dream job would be to work for a Colorado or Wyoming ranch to help with management or event planning.

Last spring when we had a job fair there were not that many tables as previous years,” said Vogler, “and with COVID-19 I’m not sure as to how it will work over Zoom as compared to having it in person.”

Chytka said students need to register online through the Handshake platform to attend the fair. They need to schedule either a group employer session and/or a one on one meeting with a recruiter for a 10 minute session. Currently there are 375 students registered.

“This will be a much better way to engage with the employer and discuss your qualifications for an internship or a job,” said Chyrka.
