110th ASUW administration meets for the first time

The 110th ASUW administration met for the first time Tuesday, naming several positions within the senate and selecting a Chief of Staff.

Along with new members of the senate, President Allison Brown and Vice President Kathyrn Carrier were inaugurated on Monday.

Brown expressed excitement for the administration and noted that the 110th administration will be the first to have senate positions receiving hourly pay.

Brown also stated support for Chief of Staff candidate Riley Skorcz, who the senate approved Tuesday.

“She is more than qualified and will make an extra chief of staff if confirmed, Brown said.

“Some of her experiences include founding and serving as a primary chair for the Queer Community Coalition who we’ve worked with extensively in the past as ASUW, her work in the state legislature here in Wyoming as a legislative intern, and her extensive experience in her career field of interest with her majors in speech language and hearing science as well as disability studies.”

Additionally, Brown noted Skorcz’s work with ASUW writing a resolution opposing Senate File 51, the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act.

“As Chief of Staff I aim not only to promote the platform of the presidency, but to embody and exemplify those values in my day-to-day responsibilities as well,” Skorcz said.

In addition to promoting advocacy, cohesion, and accessibility on campus, Skorcz will work on a personal project.

“From my experiences as a disabilities studies student and a queer person on campus, I realize that there are a multitude of resources that already exist that are centered around accessibility and inclusivity. But those resources are not necessarily accessible to everyone,” Skorcz said.

“I want to create a series of resource guides to those who are interacting with students at every level.”

Skorcz said the guides may include information on how to make student organizations more welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community and on accessibility for students with disabilities.

“These guides will make existing campus resources more widely known, while also providing opportunities for students to improve their own campus climate,” Skorcz said.

As Chief of Staff, Skorcz will oversee the rest of the executive team under ASUW President Allison Brown and Vice President Kathryn Carrier.

Skorcz emphasized the importance of building communication and trust.

“Building trust within a team like this is super important, because when we create an environment where we have trust we’re not afraid to ask questions, we’re not afraid to disagree, and we’re not afraid to really work hard to get what we want,” Skorcz said.

In addition to approving Skorcz as Chief of Staff, the senate also selected the President Pro Tempore, Parliamentarian, Sergeant at Arms, Marshall, and members of the intersession oversight committee which will be responsible for any action items over the summer when the full Senate is not meeting.

The next meeting for the full Senate will be held in mid-August.
