Circle K comes to the University of Wyoming

Kiwanis Club of the Rockies is opening a Circle K club again in Laramie with the help of freshman Samantha Ledford. The Circle K club is an opportunity for students to participate in community service and be part of their community.

“It’s really fun. It’s nice to make new friends and give back to your community. There’s a lot of things we can do for our community and I think it also helps to unite us as a community more,” said Samantha Ledford.

Ledford is a freshman at the University of Wyoming and participated in Key Club, which is another Kiwanis club, in highschool. She mentioned that during a break from school she had gone back to a meeting in Colorado with Kiwanis and was inspired to start Circle K on campus.

“I wanted to continue to be a part and be involved with the Kiwanis Club with the Rockies. So I thought it’d be really cool to bring it back and share those memories and those fun experiences with others,” said Ledford.

Circle K was previously a club in Laramie but did not last during COVID-19 because the structure of the club is community and interaction. Ledford is now trying to get the club running again on campus as leader in the club.

“I’m co-president. My friend Brett Jones, a sophomore, is president and he’s been helping to start up the club. Hopefully this year we can get enough members to become an official club,” said Ledford.

According to Ledford, they need to have four members to be recognized as a club by the university, but 15 members and another official figure in the club in order to be official. They also need a faculty advisor.

Circle K will be hosting some opening events to invite people in and help them understand what the club is and will do.

The club will do service projects, like going to the food bank or nursing home, going and picking up trash at a park, and other projects, like putting out encouraging messages.

“By next semester, I’m hoping to get the club to be in the unofficial stage and I hope by the end of next semester we can be an official club. And I’d love to start some small service projects. and work our way up to even bigger ones,” said Ledford.

The opportunity to join the Circle K club is available to anyone with no prior experience or commitments needed, it is open to anyone wanting to get involved with the community and make connections.
