Laramie WY- The UniWyo Invite served off on September 9th at the Uni Wyo Sports Complex
in Laramie. The Cowgirls took the court against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night. The
Cowgirls started the match off with a 2-0 lead only for Santa Barbara to come right back
and tie the same. After much back and forth the Cowgirls took off on a 3-kill run to head
into a media timeout with the score at 15-11, that was the break Santa Barabra need to
come back and get within 2 again. Ony for the Cowgirls to take the lead back to 18-13, and
that was all she wrote. Both teams finished the set off in a round of errors from attack,
blocks and 3 services errors to finish the set.
The second set both teams were dialed in! The set was back and forth until the end.
Each team was going up by 1 or 2 and then the other team would come back. After battling,
the teams got a break for a media timeout, and the score was 14-15 with UW on top. CBS
came out of the time out on a 3-scoring run; UW was able to get a point in, but CBS went off
on another 3-point run for UW to take a timeout with the score at 20-16. The Cowgirls were
able to regroup in the time out and got the first two points after the timeout. CBS got one
point then the Cowgirls got three to tie the game at 21 a piece; CBS called a timeout, and
the crowd went wild! That timeout changed the game. UW got the next point, and CBS
immediately called another timeout. After that it was back-to-back and then both teams
were tied at 24. CBS took the set point, and UW called a timeout. The timeout didn’t help
the Cowgirls they lost set 2: 26-24.
The third set was just like any other set until we got to the end. Both teams again
battled it out for the lead, and CBS had a good lead of 22-18, but UW decided they were
going to win this set if went to extra points. The Cowgirls battled back point by point and
were able to pull the set out with a 27-25 victory. At the end of the third match, UW was up
2 sets to 1 going into the fourth set. The fourth set was not the Cowgirls’ best work; CBS got
off to an early lead, and the Cowgirls couldn’t catch up. There was a media timeout at 15-7
score with CBS on top once the teams got back on the court; the Cowgirls could not come
back CBS wins set four 25-15.
Well, the Cowgirls did not disappoint in the fifth set. The Cowgirls started off in the
lead and never gave up! Now the game was not the pretties as CBS had lots of errors, but
the Cowgirls used that to rush to a 15-6 win! The Cowgirls start the UniWyo Invite 1-0, will
