Cynthia Lummis wins U.S. Senate race against Merav Ben-David

On Tuesday night, the Associated Press announced that republican candidate, Cynthia Lummis beat democratic candidate Merav Ben-David for U.S. Senate.

“Tonight, the words ‘thank you’ are not enough… I am humbled, honored and full of gratitude for the trust you have put in me,” Lummis said in a press release.

According to the statement, she wants to thank her team, volunteers who campaigned and the Wyoming voters.

Lummis said, “There’s no question this is a challenging time for our state and nation. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact families and businesses. And the national media continues to fuel political divisiveness. However, it is my sincere hope that we wake up tomorrow not as a blue nation or a red nation, but a unified nation ready to renew the American Spirit and sense of purpose.”

“We have serious challenges to tackle and it’s going to require Republicans, Democrats and Independents to work together. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves, head back to Washington and work with my colleagues who are ready to enact a robust policy agenda that puts America – and Wyoming – first.”

Merav Ben-David’s campaign manager, Yoav Magid, responded to the Branding Iron’s request for a statement.

“A lot of the results aren’t in yet, so it looks like she didn’t win, but margins matter. We are interested to see how it compares to Democrats in the past and the recent polls, like UW’s. If my estimations are correct, it looks like we will be outperforming the poll. It’s encouraging to Merav and Democrats who run in the future,” Magid said.

“It was tough with COVID-19, talking to people has been difficult and it has not been easy to connect with Wyomingites fact-to-face. We’ve made hundreds of thousands of phone calls and sent hundreds of thousands of texts the past few month. We learned that next time we need to start earlier and build a strong campaign earlier… that will be helpful for whoever runs next.”

According to Magid, Ben-David plans on staying involved in Wyoming politics and in spreading the message of climate change.
